We’re already in the 2nd month of the year! Have you already started crossing out items in your to-do lists and resolution lists? Or have you already fallen behind in your schedule?

How many of you put “be good” or “be a better Christian” in your resolutions? *raise your hands*

Maybe one of our latest books can help you in your journey to live the way God wants, based on the Ten Commandments

“The Ten Commandments??? Aren’t those too old school for a modern world like ours today? And come on, aren’t those standards too high for mere, weak and sinful people like us? And don’t quote me on this, but I heard that Jesus kinda rendered those ten commandments obsolete in the New Testament right?”

These are probably some of the things that run through people’s heads when they hear about the Ten Commandments. Or probably an image of Charlton Heston holding the two tablets on Mt Sinai quickly pop into your head.

We made a random survey on what is the hardest commandment to follow and if the Ten Commandments are still relevant these days. The majority of our respondents found it most difficult to follow the second commandment “Thou shalt not have other gods before me”. Not that we worship a golden calf or anything, but this world just offers so many distractions that we unconsciously worship false idols (money, other people, the internet). Some also found honoring the Sabbath and surprisingly, “Thou shalt not kill” to be hard to live by too. We hope they don’t mean the second one literally 🙂

But everyone was unanimous in saying that the Ten Commandments are still relevant in this day and age. Here are some of their answers

The Ten Commandments are still very relevant in our times because they are the key tenets on which every single person on earth should base the way they live their lives. In fact, the complications of life spring from the violation of these commandments. Crimes around us happen because these basic life rules have been broken.

It goes without saying that, yes, it is still relevant… and most of the legal systems of the world agree. While there were older or more systematic law systems in history, it is the Decalogue that has been the basis of all modern law.

The commandments illustrate the standard sinful man can never hope to meet; and therefore is in need for God’s grace & salvation.

But a few worried about the way the commandments are presented.

I guess the thing that’s lacking in the 10 commandments is love — for even if I were able to do all these things, without love, what good am I?

Pastor William Girao’s latest book, How to Live the Way God Wants, can help you make sense of “The Decalogue”. Does God expect more from us other than to follow these three basic rules we’ve been taught since the day we first trusted Christ? What will it take for us to enjoy a growing relationship with the Lord and with our fellowmen? Revisit the Ten Commandments and explore God’s original intent for Israel, which still applies to us today.

As a bonus for you blog readers, you can download the official Study Guide to help you or your Bible study group as you go through this book.

How to Live the Way God Wants is available at all OMF Lit Bookshops nationwide.
