Tuesday Tips: How Writers Can Survive the Love Month

Unless you’re a hopeless romantic or someone whose work is to write about love, February is a pretty ambivalent month for most writers. Society has practically “forced” us to write about Valentine’s Day-themed topics. And we say, instead of fighting tooth and nail against it, maybe we should either ignore it completely or take advantage of it to get our own ideas about love out there. We choose to embrace the latter, and so here are some simple ideas on love-related topics that you can write about without sounding too cheesy or lovelorn.

1. A long-lost elementary or high school friend and why you loved (platonically or romantically) him/her and how you would love to re-connect with them again. Who knows, because of your blog/note, you might actually find them again.

2. A hobby that you absolutely love, but other people can’t understand why

3. Why you love your dad. A lot of people write about their Moms, but sometimes Dads get the short end of the stick. If you have a terrific Dad, let people know about it, so they’ll see that there are still good fathers out there.

4. Why you love the fact that people are worried that you’re still single (as opposed to the traditional why you love being single)

5. Top 10 Reasons Why You Celebrate “Valentine’s Day” in April (or any other month except February)

6. A writer that you absolutely love, no matter what he/she writes (even an obituary notice or an entry in wikipedia)

7. How social media has changed how we spend February

8. A word collage of all the things/people  that you love

9. Top 10 reasons why you love your pastor/church/churchmates (yes, it’s cheesy, but they will never get tired of hearing why you love them)

10.  A love letter to God. This is probably one of the most difficult love letters to write. It doesn’t have to be all serious and spiritual. God loves all expressions of love!
