The Philippines has always distinguished itself from its neighbors as the only predominantly Christian nation in Asia. And yet, when you look closely at a lot of the traditions and beliefs that a lot of the people practice and believe in, you would be hard-pressed to find the “Christianity” aspect in any of it.

Just to give you an example, which of these do you believe in or even practice?

  • Reading and believing in horoscopes
  • Consulting “spiritists” and faith healers
  • Playing “Spirit of the Glass” or any seemingly harmless game that calls on the spirits of dead people
  • Strong belief in the presence of ghosts, particularly dearly departed loved ones
  • Superstitious beliefs (bad luck on Friday the 13th, not sweeping in the evening, “usog” on the babies
  • Using amulets or anting-antings to ward off evil spirits and bad luck
  • Astral projection
  • Having and using the “third eye”

Most of us have probably at one time or another have dabbled with more than two of these practices. But at the heart of the matter is, are any of these things actually Biblical or based on Christian principles?

Pastor Hiram Pangilinan has been in the ministry of deliverance since 1994 and has been a resource person on such topics as healing, revival and spiritual warfare. In his new book Hula, Multo, Faith Healing, Atbp, he tackles these topics head on and exposes them for what they really are.

“I wish to educate my fellow Pinoys on some practices that may be culturally accepted in the Philppines but are really occult,”, Pastor Hiram shares.

Aside from sharing principles and different Biblical bases of why these are considered occult, he also shares real people and their very real and mostly painful experiences with the aforementioned practices.

But the foremost message that Hiram wants people to remember from the book is that there is a way out; no entity is more dominant than the power of Jesus Christ and His message of love and grace.

“I have seen people’s health stolen, their purpose shattered, and lives destroyed because of some occult involvement. And I have seen how the Lord turned things around for them. You will read stories of victory, how Jesus set people free…” Pastor Hiram emphatically shares.

This might raise a lot of eyebrows and may cause some controversy, because after all, these practices have been around for generations and even centuries. But this book is for those who want to discover the truth and pursue a life of genuine freedom.

Hula, Multo, Faith Healing Atbp is an original OMF Literature title. It is available for P225 at all OMF Lit Bookshops, Philippine Christian Bookstores, National Bookstore nationwide.
