Waiting (from One Year Mini Daily Inspiration)

Posted: January 23, 2013 in Devotional

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (NLT)

“And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.” Luke 24:49

I’m ready to begin my ministry now. Why is God making me wait?

Jesus told His disciples that they would tell people of all nations about Him.  But first, they had to wait for the Holy Spirit. God has important work for you to do for Him, but you must do it by the power of the Holy Spirit, not in your own strength. It’s easy to be in a hurry to get on with the job, even if it means running ahead of God. But sometimes, waiting is a part of God’s plan for you. Are you waiting and listening for God’s complete instructions, or are you running ahead of His plan for you? You need God’s timing and power to be truly effective.

God’s promise:

The Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for His help. Isaiah 30:18
