Practice Brevity
Saying something in 140 characters requires a certain kind of talent. And if you’re aspiring to be a copywriter, Twitter is one way of honing that skill. Yes, there are ways to cheat this by using twitlonger and other tools, but to be true to the spirit of Twitter, 140 characters is the way to go.
Become More Social
With the advent of social networks, it’s become necessary for writers to become, well, more social (for reasons explained here). But not all writers have the gift of being extroverts, even online. So for the socially introverted writers, Twitter is a good way of breaking the ice, so to speak. You can start off by tweeting once a day (just don’t overthink it) until you get used to the interactive rhythm of Twitter.
Increase Your Writing Confidence
Whether you tweet writing tips, sources of inspiration or even a preview of your own work, to hear people commend you or tell you they were inspired by your tweet will help boost your self-confidence and will further inspire you to tweet and write more. But you also have to prepare yourself because…
Open Yourself to Constructive (and not so constructive) Criticism
…not everything you tweet will be met with joy and gratitude. As with everything else, you can’t please everybody. But use these criticisms and negative comments to further improve your writings, or even start an informative debate/discussion. At the end of it, you will both benefit from it by learning new things and/or perspectives.
Discover Links to New Worlds
If you follow the right people (meaning those experts in the industry of your choice), each day, you will probably get at least 5 links/retweets to useful and interesting articles/websites/people.
Neverending Supply of Ideas and Inspirations
Just reading other people’s tweets, whether they’re observations, opinions and original material can inspire a new blog post, a poem, a topic for your new/next book. Just don’t forget to give credit where credit is due and don’t claim that it was your original idea.
Market Yourself
Every writer now knows that social media is the least expensive way to market themselves. And even if you don’t have a book out yet, it’s important to get your name out there even now. Facebook is a bit tedious for some, and so they turn to Twitter. As with blogging, you just have to find your niche and your voice (and your network) so as not to get lost in all the noise.
Social Media Evangelism
You might say that 140 characters is too short to share God’s love to your followers, but a simple Bible verse, a quote, sharing your blessings, asking challenging questions, can go a long way in getting the truth out there and blessing, encouraging, inspiring other people.

Sometimes, it`s really hard to trim down what really want to say into 140 words, especially when you want to share something really wonderful about the Lord.
But what`s amazing is that no matter how few the Word, God`s Word really pierces through people`s hearts.
This is a really cool post! Inspiring and encouraging!
@cathycanaceli
I cannot count the number of times when a tweet has inspired and blessed me. God really does work in mysterious ways, no matter how few the words 🙂
Thank you Cathy!
